Come away with me into a world of wonder both strange and beautiful; a place to explore and invent with color texture and mood. 30 designs born of desire translated into pictures. Bring with you crayons, markers, paints or dye, but most of all bring your exuberance! Fill up these images with delight.
Sherrie gives an overview of the book:
Several years ago when I was searching my brain for a gift to delight my mother I got a firefly of an idea. Why not draw a coloring book for her, a book of her very own? I would make the pages detailed and fanciful, wild and various, giving her enjoyment and challenge at the same time. So, while I rode the train down the eastern seaboard to visit my parents, I drew, completing the 18 page volume on the way. My mother was so pleased with her coloring book she encouraged me to continue the series. Consequently I have created enough pages for many full length coloring books. I drew the first three pages in pencil, a tribute to my insecurity and trepidation, but this was short lived when I realized that I couldn’t get a quality photocopy made of my pencil drawings. I switched to black felt tipped pens immediately and set myself to overlaying pen on pencil before moving on to the fourth page. Many of the pages are abstract; in fact most of the pages are with a few more realistic drawings thrown in for good measure; not a surprising mix from an outsider artist such as myself. Please color these pages with whichever medium you like. I have used crayons, colored pencils, pens, markers both water based and permanent, water based paints transparent and opaque, wax with dye overlay. My mother has even used these designs as templates for quilts and other fabric works of art. Feel free to explore and experiment with these pictures. I often lose myself in these designs, I hope you do too. To see these works in color and learn their names please visit me at: SerendipitousGallery.com
